6 Essentials That Makes a House a Home

Complete your home with these items.

Whether you’re moving into a new house or looking to revamp your current place, making a house a home is an exciting process. Sure, there are some necessities that every house needs. Basic things like a bed and a sofa, but there are also some items that aren’t always so obvious.  See the short list below for a few ideas:

Tools: Have you ever had a simple task remain unfinished because you didn’t have the basic tool required?  You don’t necessarily need a whole toolbox filled with the top-of-the-line supplies, but having the basics does help in a pinch. Purchase a wrench, screwdriver, hammer, and nails. Why pay someone to put up a shelf and hang a picture?  With these basic tools you’ve got all you need to do it yourself?

“Real” plates, glasses, and napkins: Make a house a home! Get rid of those paper plates and napkins, and plastic utensils. They’re wasteful and not cheap to restock. Enjoy a set of “real” plates, glasses, and utensils!

All-natural cleaning products: With so many options these days, there’s no reason why you should buy toxic and harmful cleaning products over natural and earth friendly items. From dish soap to glass cleaner to laundry detergent, try to opt for green products.  Higher prices have prevented many from making the switch, but there are affordable green products.  Choose to be good to yourself, your family and the environment!

Clean sheets: You don’t need a huge selection of bed sheets, but have just enough to enjoy sleeping in your bed every night. Choose flannel sheets in the winter, so, so cozy, and light, cotton bed covers for the summer season.

Dumping zone: Every house has one – a dumping zone.  Where is yours? Right by the front door? Kitchen island? Bottom of the stairs?  Clean up this area by placing a shoe rack and/or small table near your entry so your family and guests can take off their shoes, and you have a space for your mail and keys when you walk in.

A vacuum: Cleaning is essential. A good vacuum means that your home is kept free from dust and dirt, and is always useful for every pet owner.  The trick is actually putting it to use regularly!
